Price rise forces hotels to hike food prices

Thiruvananthapuram, Friday 19 June 2009: This bit on inflation you would find tough to digest. Unable to hold on to the price line amid escalating costs, many medium-to-large restaurants plan to make a price hike.

Sales at restaurants and hotels have dipped by 10-15 % since inflation started to gallop. Now, with the proposed menu card rate hike, your family outings to restaurants will become more expensive. This may dissuade consumers considering that household expenditures are already bursting at the seams.

Kerala State Hotel and Restaurant Association state president G Sudheer kumar said: “Rising inflation has put fear in people’s minds. They are curtailing expenses on restaurants and hotels. While this has resulted in lower sales, the industry is also grappling with rising costs. Since quality cannot be compromised upon, the industry is looking at a rate hike.”
