Asianet to launch dedicated channel for Middle East
Asianet, the first TV channel launched in Kerala, Wednesday announced the launch of a dedicated channel for the Middle East.
The official launch of Asianet Middle East 24x7 will be held in Dubai on April 7.
"There is a considerable difference in the lifestyle of Keralites in Kerala and the Keralite community living in the Middle East," Asianet Communications Managing Director K. Madhavan said.
"As the leading and trusted television channel of thousands of Malayalis in the region, we believe that the difference in outlook and aspirations must reflect in our channel's programming to fully connect with our audience here," he said.
The channel was launched in 1993.
The viewers of Asianet in the Middle East are presently offered the same programming schedules as that of the channel in Kerala. The dedicated channel has been structured to suit the lifestyle of people residing in the south Indian state.
The new dedicated 24x7 channel will structure its mainline programming schedule to suit prime time, as per the time zone in the Middle East.
"Viewers in the Middle East can watch new blockbuster movies and all the weekend shows on Fridays instead of having to miss them on Sundays," Madhavan said.
The timing of other popular programmes will also be structured to suit viewers in the Middle East.
There are about two million Keralites settled in various Middle East countries.

Kingfisher bomb: Prime suspect in custody
In a breakthrough in the case of planting of crude explosive material in the cargo-hold of a Kingfisher aircraft here last week, police said on Sunday that it has taken into custody the prime suspect in the case.
The man, a former contract employee at the airport, is suspected to have planted the explosive in the aircraft, police said but discounted any terror link in the incident.
The investigators, however, declined to disclose the man's name and said that it would be revealed after completing all formalities.
He was taken into custody two days ago and is being interrogated, sources said.
"There are strong reasons to believe that he is the key person behind the incident," a senior police official told PTI without elaborating further.
Some crude explosive material wrapped in paper was found in the cargo-hold of a Kingfisher flight which arrived here from Bangalore last Sunday.
A police team led by city Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar has been probing the case here and in Bangalore and several persons have been questioned in connection with the case.

I am proud to be in Army: Mohanlal
Kannur, Mar 27: Film star Mohanlal, who is also a Hon Lieutant Colonel in the Territorial Army (TA), today said his three-day post commissioning training was a wonderful experience and his respect for soldiers and the Army has now increased.
Talking to reporters here after the completion of the training at the TA Unit here, he said he was proud to be a soldier and an actor.
Mohanlal also appealed to the people to be part of the TA and pledged to inspire more people to the force.
He exhorted the youth to do something for the country.
Mohanlal said he would try to avoid portrayal of battle scenes against the Army in his films.
He said the Lieutant Colonel post meant more than any film award to him.

vivek venugopal gets kerala ipl team
Cricket fans of Kerala got their dream come true. A team in IPL. Vivek Venugopal and Shailendra Geykvad gets Kerala IPL Team. Next time onwards all keralites can clap for the team Kerala. Mohanal and Priydarshan tried to get a team for Kerala. Rendezvous Sports wins the bid for Kochi IPL team for Rs. 1,533 Crore. They thanked Minister Shashi Tharoor for the support he gave to get the team for Kerala.
Vivek Venugopal is a businessman. He owns the Kerala IPL Team. A consortium called Kerala Consortium having 5 business groups got the Kerala Team. Kerala got its IPL Team for Rs.1,533.33 Crore.
IPL will provide an alternate venue for the Kerala Team since Kerala doesn’t have good international stadium.
Name of the team is not yet fixed.
